USA Today and New York Times bestselling author Nicole Williams delivers a seductive summer romance worth swooning over. Perfect for fans of Sarah Dessen and Stephanie Perkins.

Phoenix can’t imagine anything worse than being shipped off to family summer camp. Her parents have been fighting for the past two years—do they seriously think being crammed in a cabin with Phoenix and her little brother, Harry, will make things better?

On top of that, Phoenix is stuck training with Callum—the head counselor who is seriously cute but a complete know-it-all. His hot-cold attitude means he’s impossible to figure out—and even harder to rely on. But despite her better judgment, Phoenix is attracted to Callum. And he’s promising Phoenix a summer she’ll never forget. Can she trust him? Or is this just another lie?

Bisakah dia mempercayainya? Atau ini hanya kebohongan lain?

I am in the mood for something  sweet, fun and light reading and I decided to pick this book since I thought it was the one. Turn out, I was wrong! This book has more serious tone. It discuss deeper and serious problem. *spoiler* Phoenix family has money  problem that tear them apart. Her dad had lost his job, money was running out and her parent constantly fighting *spoiler* It was quite depressing for me to read because I had similar problem with Phoenix’s condition in the past and reading this book bring back some bad memories of mine.  this book is slow paced.

Moreover, this book is slow paced. One reasons that usually made me hate a book.

Ternyata, saya salah! Buku ini memiliki nada yang lebih serius. Trusting You and Other Lies membahas masalah yang lebih dalam dan serius. * Spoiler * Keluarga Phoenix punya masalah keuangan.

This book has several reasons for me to hate it but surprisingly  I like it.
I like how the characters feel reals and relatable, the issue is realistic and quite serious, I love Phoenix’s brother: Harry, I like the banter between Phoenix and Callum, and I love the message that I learned from this book.

Some my favorite quotes (may contain spoiler):

“Besides, If we succeeded the first time at everything, life would become pretty damn boring”

“That’s usually the way it goes. We convince everyone else first, but we’re usually the last to realize just what we’re capable of. Human nature”

“Dads. And moms… They make just as many mistakes as you and me because they think they’re doing the right things”

“You don’t want to start giving other people power over your life. That’s a tough habit to break. ….. My brother was a big fan of the victim mentality. Blamed everything on our dad. He felt powerless, but really, he’d just chosen to give his power away.”

4 star for Trusting You and Other Lies!

A digital copy of this book was provided by Random House Children’s via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you so much Random House Children’s and Netgalley! 😀

  1. I’ve been seeing this one around lately and have enjoyed her books in the past. It sounds wonderful. I think I’ll be able to relate to the storyline too and hadn’t expected it to be so emotional actually. Brilliant review Hana, you’ve convinced me to give it a read as well ❤ ❤
