Once upon a time, I fell in love with a guy. I thought he loved me so I asked him to marry me. Turn out he did not, I was devastated and broken-hearted. It was so hurt and I really wish I could change his mind.

Suatu ketika, aku jatuh cinta dengan seorang pria. Kupikir dia mencintaiku jadi aku memintanya untuk menikah denganku. Ternyata aku salah, dia tidak mencintaiku, aku hancur dan patah hati. Hal tersebut sangat menyakitkan dan aku sangat berharap bisa mengubah pikirannya.

Lately I have desperately pondered,
Spent my nights awake and I wonder
What I could have done in another way
To make you stay
Reason will not reach a solution

Then I came across this book. This book changed my mind about changing my crush’s mind.  I thankful that I did not have the ability to change someone’s mind.

Lalu aku menemukan buku ini. Buku ini mengubah pikiranku tentang keinginan mengubah pikiran gebetanku. Membuatku bersyukur aku tidak memiliki kemampuan untuk mengubah pikiran seseorang.

In Fairest, I learn about Queen’s Levana when she was a young.  She is smart, ambitious, and desperately in need of love.  At age 15, She fell in love with Evret, a palace guard.  She was using her glamour and her mind control ability to brainwash Evret into wanting her. She thought brainwash Evret will make her happy, but she did not. Even after 10 years of marriage with Evret, she was still waiting for Evret to fall in love with her.

Dari Fairest, aku mengetahui kisah Ratu Levana saat dia masih muda. Dia cerdas, ambisius, dan sangat membutuhkan cinta. Pada usia 15 tahun, dia jatuh cinta dengan Evret, seorang penjaga istana. Dia menggunakan glamour dan kemampuan mengendalikan pikirannya untuk mencuci otak Evret agar menginginkannya. Dia pikir mencuci otak Evret akan membuatnya bahagia, tapi ternyata tidak. Bahkan setelah 10 tahun menikah dengan Evret, ia masih menunggu Evret jatuh cinta padanya.

Levana was not so naïve as to pretend that every moment hadn’t required mental pressure from her. Reshaping his thoughts to match her own, forcing her own desire upon him, reminding him again and again that he loved her. He loved her.

Levana tidaklah naif untuk berpura-pura bahwa setiap momen tidak membutuhkan tekanan mental darinya.  Dia berusaha membentuk pikiran Evret agar sesuai dengan keinginannya, memaksakan hasratnya kepada Evret, mengingatkan Evret lagi dan lagi bahwa Evret mencintainya. Evret mencintainya.

Evret’s words for Levana like wake up call for me. Kata-kata Evret untuk Levana menyadarkanku.

“You’re always so desperate to make this work, to turn our marriage into something it isn’t. Haven’t you ever just stopped to wonder what else might be out there? What you might be missing out on by trying so hard to force this to be real between us?” He squeezed her hands. “I told you a long time ago that by choosing me, you were giving up your chance to find happiness.”

“Kamu selalu sangat putus asa untuk membuat pernikahan ini berhasil,  mengubah pernikahan kita menjadi sesuatu yang tidak seharusnya. Tidakkah kamu pernah berhenti untuk bertanya apa lagi yang mungkin terjadi di luar sana? Apa yang mungkin kamu lewatkan dengan menghabiskan tenaga, memaksa hubungan ini menjadi nyata di antara kita? ” Evret mengegnggam tangan Levana.”Sudah saya katakan sejak lama bahwa dengan memilih saya, Anda melepaskan kesempatan untuk menemukan kebahagiaan. “

Those words made me realize that I maybe broken-hearted, but Allah gives me a chance to find true happiness, where I don’t have to be in constant worry whether a guy that I love, love me back or not.

Kata-kata tersebut membuatku sadar bahwa aku mungkin patah hati, tapi Allah memberiku kesempatan untuk menemukan kebahagiaan sejati, di mana aku tidak harus terus-menerus khawatir apakah pria yang kucintai, mencintaiku juga atau tidak.

Overall, Levana’s story is so tragic, made me feel sorry for her since I understand her need of love, but it is sad to see she chose to keep lying to herself by did not let Evret go and chose the evil path to control the throne.

Secara keseluruhan, cerita Levana sangat tragis, membuatku merasa kasihan padanya karena aku mengerti kebutuhannya akan cinta, tapi sedih melihat dia memilih tetap membohongi dirinya sendiri dengan tidak membiarkan Evret pergi dan memilih jalan jahat untuk mengendalikan takhta.

She cried for the girl who had never belonged. A girl who tried so hard, harder than anyone else, and still never had anything to show for it. A girl who had been certain that Evret loved her and only her, and now she couldn’t even remember what that certainty felt like.
