Sinopsis/Synopsis:

“Do you know what the difference is between dream and ambition, Ghi?”

Ghi no longer wants to sing “Welcome Home, Rain”, Kei’s song duet creation. Since he caught Kei out of the hotel room with the boss of the famous record company, he no longer wants to relate to anything with the girl who became his ex-girlfriend and ex-duet partner. Yet, the job of singing is still flowing profusely for Ghi who was already famous and adored by many people.

For Kei, the scandal closed the door of her dream. Playing piano and singing can no longer be done without bringing heartache. Even Mama’s scolding fills her days but it can not force her back into the music world.

Until the duet offer for Valentine’s Day arrives. Neither Ghi nor Kei can escape. Ghi need to prove to the fans and haters who taunt him thinking he has not been able to move on while Kei needed money to pay off Mama’s debt.

By returning on stage, they try to understand the true meaning of dream and ambition.

Review:

I really like when books have an on-point opening first page that immediately draws you in and leaves you wanting more— that was definitely the case with Welcome Home Rain. I like Suarcani’s writing style. 😊 I found the first chap usually contains daily routine of the main characters but this is not the case with welcome home Rain.  This book started with the scandal that destroyed Kei’s career and the reason why Ghi and Kei broke up. Amusing right?

Despite have an interesting opening, I have mixed feeling about the main characters.
At first, I sympathize and feel pity for both Ghi and Kei but in the middle of the book, they started getting irritating.

I dislike how Kei drown in sadness and unable to move on. While I knew it is hard to get over someone, this side of Kei reminds a part of me that I do not like.
And Ghi was stubborn and kept holding grudge against Kei. I understand being betrayed was hurt but he kept complaining like he is the most broken-hearted guy on earth.
Both Kei and Ghi seemed stuck in their problem and made the story progress in slow-paced manner. If you guys following me for a long time, you guys must know, I do not like slow-paced story.

.
But then I remember Dias, @alhzeta ‘s character in her other book, Rule of thirds. Dias was annoying at first but at the end of the book, I like him.
So let’s see whether I will like Kei and Ghi at the end of the book.

At the end of the books, I surprised with the explanation of Ghi and Kei’s behavior. I can’t predict them. The author managed to bring twist that surprises me. The explanation made me change my mind. I did not hate Ghi and Kei as much as when I read the first and the middle part of the book. I started to like them. Their character development is good enough. 😊

Saya mulai menyukai mereka. Pengembangan karakter mereka cukup baik.

Goodjob
The story also made me think and question the difference between dream and ambition.
It is quite a fun read. I think people who love angst and a sad story will love this book.
3 stars for Welcome Home, Rain.

  1. I love the cover Hana and despite the storyline being really slow and difficult to get into, it sounds as though the ending is really well written. I love characters that you start out disliking but slowly they creep up on you and before you know it, you’re totally shipping them. Great review Hana, glad you were still able to enjoy it ❤ Happy new year!
