Sinopsis/Synopsis:

Cath is a Simon Snow fan.

Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan…

But for Cath, being a fan is her life—and she’s really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it’s what got them through their mother leaving.

Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere.

Cath’s sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can’t let go. She doesn’t want to.

Now that they’re going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn’t want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She’s got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words… And she can’t stop worrying about her dad, who’s loving and fragile and has never really been alone.

For Cath, the question is: Can she do this?

Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? Writing her own stories?

And does she even want to move on if it means leaving Simon Snow behind?

Review:

Now I understand why Fangirl got a mixed review. Some people like Fangirl and some do not. It happened to me, too I liked some part of this book and did not like others.

At the beginning of this book, my expectation was quite low due to hearing mixed reviews. I thought Fangirl  will be a bit slow at the beginning and become better and better afterwards. But it was not like that. I was surprised to find myself immediately love the first part of this book. The first eighty pages of Fangirl was exciting and fun to read.

The main character in the novel Fangirl, Cath is an introvert who has trouble adapting to life on campus. I am also like that so I can easily identify myself with Cath.

“Aku tidak tahu dimana letak ruang makan”
“Kau sudah tinggal disini lebih dari sebulan”
“Aku tahu”
“Dan kau belum menemukan ruang makan?”
“Aku belum benar-benar mencari”

“—I don’t know where the dining hall is.”
“You’ve been living here more than a month.”
“I know.”
“And you haven’t found the dining hall?”
“I haven’t actually looked.”

Sayangnya 80 halaman selanjutnya membosankan.

Unfortunately next 80 pages is boring. I think Rainbow Rowell want to make the reader curious about the problems that Cath’s father experienced. The story progress slowly while I am impatient and likes fast paced, I feel bored.

Aku kesulitan memahami fanficnya. Mungkin karena aku tahu kalau fanfic Simon Snow terinspirasi Harry Potter jadi bukannya membayangkan karakter baru, aku malah membayangkan Harry Potter sehingga fanficnya terasa tidak masuk akal bagiku.

Another thing that makes Fangirl less enjoyable for me is the Fanfic part. I had trouble understanding the Fanfic. I know that Simon Snow fanfic inspired by Harry Potter’so instead I imagine the new character, I imagined Harry Potter  and it made the fanfic part has no sense for me.

Thanks God,after that, the story goes better and better until the end. I find myself can not stop reading.

Aku suka bagian romancenya. Cerita cintanya manis. ❤  Aku meleleh ketika Levi memanggil Cath sweetheart. Soalnya aku bermimpi suamiku memanggilku sweetheart dan ketika membaca bagian Levi mengatakan sweetheart, rasanya seolah-olah aku yang dipanggil sweetheart.

I love the romance part. It is sweet love story ❤ I  melt when Levi called Cath sweetheart. I had a dream that my husband will call me sweetheart and when the reading the part where Levi called Cath sweetheart, it felt as though I was being called sweetheart.

“Kita saling menyukai.” kata Levi.

One of my favorite conversations between Cath and Levi:

“But it doesn’t matter. Nothing you just said matters, Cath. And most of it isn’t even true. We have lots of stuff in common. We talk all the time—we used to. And it just made me want to talk to you more. That’s a really good sign.”
“What do we have in common?”
“We like each other,” he said. “What more is there? Also, compared to the rest of the world, we have everything in common. If aliens came down to earth, they probably wouldn’t even be able to tell us apart.”
